Blind Mother and Her Adopted Daughter

3 years, 5 months

The girl in the middle of this photo is named Afamsa and the woman on the left is Fanna, her adoptive mother. They are both blind. When she was born, her parents could not accept her being blind because of the stigma here in the Gambia against blind people. So, they left her to live with dogs. When she was found for social workers, she could not speak and was almost un-human. Luckily for her, Fanna adopted her and now she can socialize and even has a boyfriend.
