Date palms - Life in the desert

The date palm tree is the symbol of life in the Arabian desert. Cultivation of dates is an important form of agriculture in the Emirates, one of world's top ten producers of the fruit. Date trees have provided food, shelter and materials for artisinal goods like fans and baskets to the local people for thousands of years. Today, the date palm symbolize the survival of humans through harsh climactic conditions and they can be found dotting the landscape in the Emirates.
