The Alpheus is the most important river of the Peloponnese. It is also called Rufus, from folk paretymologia after many vicissitudes: Alpheus - Alpheus - Arfeias - Rufus. In medieval times, supported by scholars that the intermediate type was Arfeias River Orpheus instead of Alpheus (Alpheus).
