Bodie Ghost Town, located in the eastern Sierra Nevada, is one of my all-time favorite places to visit. Built during the California gold rush, it was abandoned in the early 1900s, but continues to stand as a hauntingly beautiful reminder of our state's history. Following a particularly gnarly snowstorm, I made my way off-roading through the snow and ice to find myself totally alone in this historic landmark. I left that day near frostbitten in my toes, but having had an unforgettable adventure!
