Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake

1 year

As the only venomous snake found in Ontario, the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake is an excellent hunter. This individual is tasting the air with her forked tongue, to detect potential danger (me) and also potential prey passing by. This snake here is a gravid female. She spent her entire summer at the gestation site to incubate her neonates, and gave birth to 7.
