A crocodile of the Alligatoridae and Caiman genus. It is distributed throughout southeastern regions of South America in the basins of the Paraná, Paraguay, Uruguay and San Francisco rivers. They have a lifespan of about 50 years and are known for having the broadest snout of all crocodilians, hence their scientific name latirostris (broad nose).
