May 19, 2017, 9:00 p.m. After driving up the twisting blind corners of the Road to Hana, our group reached the campsite at Kipahulu and set up in the falling dark. In darkness we closely watched the flashing knives in the headlamp's perfect spotlight, eagerly awaiting our dinner. Our eyes were focused solely on the food illuminated in the circle of light, until we took our full plates, switched off the lights, and enjoyed our meal in the softer radiance of Hawaii's scattered silent stars.
